Valentine's Day at Chez Shafer

We were so excited for Valentine's Day to get here that we opened our gifts to each other early.  The gifting went as follows:
  • Noah got Katie: A New Blu-Ray player so that I can watch Netflix on the treadmill.  I'm loving it! It certainly makes those miles seem shorter.
  • Katie got Noah: (beware, this is very, very romantic and not for those who are sensitive to mooshy-ness) A Costco-sized pack of blade replacements for his razor, 3 large bath towels, and a white-noise-making alarm clock.  You should know that I made his wildest dreams come true with that gift.
  • Mom & Dad got Calvin: A box to lock his stuff in, Wyatt: A Transformers bathrobe, Cyrus: I can't remember. Oh, and they all got new socks.
  • Calvin, Wyatt, and Cyrus got Mom & Dad: Nothing.  Unless you count the joy they bring us everyday.
And on to the pictures because, let's be honest, that is why you are here reading this blog.

So, while were we making heart-shaped sugar cookies to be decorated, Calvin got upset at Noah and I for something.  I wish I could remember what it is because I know it would make the story better.  Anyhoo, he did not want us to look at him, but he still wanted to be around the cookie making, so he taped a piece of paper to his face.  If you don't think this is funny, there is no hope.  Stop reading and eat a sandwich.

After the baking comes the decorating, and from this picture of Cyrus' skills, I'm pretty sure if he opens a bakery when he grows up, his cookies will be popular with the 5 and under age group.  Each cookie had it's own bottle of sprinkles and at least 5 sugar heart things.
And now he is on to enjoying his handiwork.
Calvin was a bit more deliberate with his design. Aren't they lovely?
Wyatt proved that he taught Cyrus all he knew about cookie decorating when he dumped the bottle of sprinkles on his own cookie.
And I forgot to mention:  shirts were optional at this event.
The week after Valentine's Day is a particularly special time for me because it is the start of Easter Candy Season (my favorite candy time).  We wasted no time getting Peeps & Reese's peanut butter eggs.  I had Noah hide the bag of PB eggs from me because they wouldn't last a day around my sweet tooth.  As you can see, he did a bang up job.  Look in the right hand corner of that ceiling cut out, and you will spy the little bag of candy.  It's much too high for me to get.  Trust me.  I know only because I risked my life to trying to reach them.
And finally, have a lookie at Cyrus' picture he painted in nursery.  As his nursery leader said, "he just painted that little girl's face right off."  It gave us a good laugh.

Haha. Kids are so funny. I'll bet Calvin would have been even more mad had he known how hilarious his tape job was.
Cyrus still seems like a 6 month old to me; it's crazy to see how old he and your other boys are.
Oh, and good job about the candy! I would end up begging Ryan to get the candy down and then getting rather angry when he said no...because he would say no. No mercy.

This post gave me the giggles! You're such a good mommy! And that hiding place is perfect. My husband would do that to me too. They are in plain site but unattainable. Tricky.

He sure did. Her face came clean off! Easter is also my favorite candy time. I think that's why it was such a special trip last year. Let's shoot for May in the grand canyon. Start menu planning now! I'll be in charge of the salt lick pudding........or do you want to? whatever is fine with me.
